Jet Trails and Sunrises

I was supposed to wake up early to study, but with a sunrise as beautiful as the one I just witnessed and the three jet trails that I watched intersect brought me to a pen and a scrap piece of paper to put down these words.

The jet trails in your wake,
The sunrises you leave behind;
There’s little of you that you take
But you’re still the easiest to find.

I watch your eyelids flutter,
I hear the engines roar,
You say goodbye with a stutter
And it’s already time to go.

As the blue turns into shades of pink
And the sun gives out it’s mighty glow,
Before I’ve got enough time to think,
Up and above; you take off and you soar.

There’s places you’d discover,
People you’ll meet and see…
The past is far from over
But be whoever you are yet to be.

The clouds you place across the sky,
Not quite enough to bring down a rain
Make me wonder how and why
I’m not drenched but feel just the same.
